Which is how we approach the Veneto region. Historically, wealthy Venetians had mansions in the countryside here, and we explore some designed by the master himself: Andrea Palladio. The Veneto is home to good food and good drink (you've likely heard of two of its hallmarks, Valpolicella and Amarone). Visit with local wine producers, pedal the rolling Prosecco hills and foray into Valdobbiadene and perfectly preserved medieval Bassano del Grappa, the region home to radicchio, asparagus, risotto and tiramisu.

Whether navigating through Venice's canals via kayak, painting alongside Renaissance and Gothic churches or rolling out some tortellini, the kids are bound to enjoy the Veneto, perhaps just as much as the "big ones" on board. Veneto Walking
Follow the peaceful green Sile river into medieval Treviso, visit Follina, the heart of UNESCO Prosecco hills, hike the glorious Monte Grappa and walk to reach Marostica. En route, make forays into Valdobbiadene and perfectly preserved medieval Bassano del Grappa. Meander through walnut and beech trees and reach the small Romanesque parish church of Collagù, where you can enjoy a spectacular view of the Pre-Alps mountains and—on a clear day—Venice from the crest of the hills.
