Carbon Neutral Trip
Northern Portugal’s Douro Valley serves up swoon-worthy scenery, soul-warming Port, and enough Roman bridges to impress Julius himself. Pedal from medieval Ponte de Lima, past vineyards and terraced farms, then cruise the Douro River with a glass of Port in hand. With cobblestones, cork trees, cool Atlantic air and culinary magic—this is Portuguese indulgence on two wheels.

Rest your head in style at properties that are anything but ordinary; from the design-forward Maison Albar–Amoure set in the rolling hills near Braga, to a historic 250-year-old wine estate in the heart of the Douro, and the Six Senses, where wellness, wine, and riverside views come together in perfect harmony.

Day 1
Ease into the rhythm of northern Portugal through the Minho countryside—stone houses, vine-covered hillsides, fields of maize—arriving in Ponte de Lima, Portugal's oldest village, where a medieval bridge spans the Lima River and the main square has a way of pulling you in longer than planned. Tonight, dinner is at Maison Albar. Amoure's signature restaurant that pairs French culinary technique with the rich produce of northern Portugal.

Day 2
Today’s ride goes deeper into the Minho heartland, passing ancient granaries, terraced slopes and oak forests edging toward Peneda-Gerês National Park, before a rustic lunch and a return to the hotel to freshen up. The evening is spent in Braga, where a private guided walk through Baroque churches and Roman-era streets is followed by dinner and live fado.

Day 3
Ride into the Douro Valley, where terraced vineyards cascade down the hillsides and the river glints far below. Pass through Provesende’s stone lanes before descending to Pinhão, where a river cruise and floating picnic deliver you to the dock of Quinta Nova Nossa Senhora do Carmo, an 18th-century estate with panoramic vineyard views. The evening brings a winery visit and dinner at Quinta Nova's acclaimed Terraçus restaurant.
Activity:
Morning ride: 36 km (22 mi.) | Elevation gain: 478 m (1,568 ft.)
Day 4
This morning's ride glides mainly downhill through vineyards and ancient olive groves to the Douro's edge, pausing for an alfresco lunch at a renowned estate winery with sweeping valley views and a pour of their finest ports. The afternoon brings us to our next stay at Six Senses Douro Valley — a beautifully restored 19th-century manor perched above the river, where the spa, terrace, and vineyard gardens are yours to explore at your own pace.

Day 5
Start at the foot of Lamego’s 686-step Baroque staircase, the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, before riding south through apple orchards and riverside villages to a lunch crafted by Michelin-starred chef Rui Paula on the Douro’s edge. Tonight, a private farewell dinner gathers the group in a 16th-century wine bar, with firelight, music, and a last toast to the valley.

Spa services
Most of the hotels on this trip have incredible spas and spa services. We recommend booking these in advance with your guide.

Terrain
Portugal offers diverse terrain which can include cobblestone roads when entering towns and steep hills. We recommend familiarity with biking in these conditions and an e-bike for non avid cyclists.

Time of Year
Spring in the Douro Valley offers flowers, refreshing weather, and smaller crowds. During fall's harvest season, vineyards are slightly busier and the grapes are still on the vines.
