This morning after breakfast, we say adios to Peru.  For those with flights home or beyond today, transport to the Cusco airport will be provided.

Daily walks range between 3 to 11 km (1.85 to 6.85 mi.), on cobbled city streets, grassy terraced hillsides and the winding footpaths of the Inca Trail. We travel through the Sacred Valley at altitudes between 2,100 and 3,700 m (6900 to 12000 ft). Apart from the challenging walk up to Machu Picchu, the trip is moderate. You may find, however, that the altitude requires more effort than at lower elevations. Expect some uneven stairs on our hikes in the ruins as well as some sheer drop offs in places.

Butterfield & Robinson will provide you with a pick-up service from the airport to your hotel upon arrival in Cusco, provided that you send us your flight arrival information well ahead of your scheduled trip date. Your trip will end at the main train station in St. Pierre des Corps in time for the direct 10:39am train to Paris Montparnasse. Most flights from Paris to North America depart in the late morning or early afternoon; therefore it will be difficult (though not impossible) to fly home that day. We recommend spending at least one night in Paris unless you are disposed to catch an earlier train on your own. Those who need to go to CDG airport can take the 10:54am train arriving at CDG airport at 1:04pm. Those who need to get to the airport earlier than 1pm will have to arrange a separate transfer at their own expense.

Most of the riding on this trip is level with gentle grades, but be aware that the Loire Valley is not flat, there are several longer climbs. The daily distances average 45 km (28 mi.). There are three layover days, which allow for some shorter routes and, for avid cyclists, longer options.

The first portion of this trip alternates between relatively flat routes and some hilly rides. Distances range from 27 to 44 km (17 to 27 mi) with options every day, including the Century Ride of 100 km. In general we follow narrow, quiet roads through vineyards, farmland, forests and charming towns. Burgundy has been credited with having the best biking, not just in France, but the world.

We'll drop you off at the Dijon train station in time for the mid-morning TGV to Paris. Most flights to North America from Paris depart in the late morning or early afternoon making it difficult, though not impossible, to make a same-day connection. Delve into Dali’s backyard: ride rolling volcanic hills dwarfed by the Pyrenees, explore time-stamped villages and feast on molecular cuisine.

The riding is varied with the majority of terrain being rolling hills and flat stretches on quiet country roads. There will be a couple of challenging climbs that can be conquered at your own pace (and perhaps even enjoyed, as they bring us to more amazing vistas!) In order to avoid some of the busier roads, our routes sometimes include unpaved gravel and dirt roads. The days’ distances range from 25 to 52 km (15.5 to 33 mi.), with options for more every day.

Tilting at windmills? Hardly. See the coast that inspired the Dutch Masters, then taste the culinary magic of the three-star Manoir Inter Scaldes.

After breakfast, your B&R guides will say goodbye to you. They will be happy of course to assist with your further travel plans and help organize transfers to Amsterdam, Bruges, Gent, Antwerp or Brussels.

We bike along truly flat bike paths and quiet country roads. Although the routes are flat, we may encounter headwinds on some days. Average daily distance is 45 km (28 miles).

We'll meet in the lobby of Hotel Pulitzer and take a short drive directly into the heart of the bulb fields, where we’ll get a behind-the-scenes look at how the flowers are grown before meeting our bikes. It’s a short easy ride to the main floral attraction: Keukenhof Gardens, where seven million flowers are on display! Please be dressed to ride this morning and bring with you anything you might need for the day (camera, sunglasses, raincoat, etc.) as your luggage will go directly to The Hague. There's much to see in Ireland's west—and more to taste than you might think: from frothy Guinness and fresh mussels to tender lamb and wild-caught salmon.

We will drop you off back in Galway, where trains for Dublin and rental cars are available. Note that the time is subject to change, depending upon the train schedule to Dublin. Some days will involve short vehicle transfers and while many days include chairlifts and gondolas to assist with ascents and descents, be prepared for plenty of ups and downs. Hiking boots (light to medium weight) with sturdy ankle support and strong grips are highly recommended. Our average bike ride is 53 km, with the option one day to do a 102 km Century Ride. Our ride in the Entre Deux Mers lets you warm up your legs, as the topography is flat or very gently rolling. The Dordogne’s terrain means that each day involves a few challenging hills—but the climbs and descents are either short or gradual, ranging between 163m and 889m. Most roads are very quiet, with a few busier sections in towns.

This trip is appropriate for travellers who take long walks three times a week and don’t mind a little sweat. It involves navigating steep, rocky terrain with no flat walks. This trip is rated Avid, meaning it’s appropriate for travellers who walk regularly and enjoy the feeling of achievement after a good hike. The more challenging options are lead by a local naturalist who will present options in order to find the best match for your interest and ability. Some walks are on narrow footpaths and along mountainsides, while others follow well-surfaced stone paths. A light hiking boot is advised for hikes along the Monte Lattari paths. Please note that vehicle support is limited on this trip due to the inaccessibility of trails and island paths.
