Being on the island of Mallorca is like a dream. Surrounded by the most beautiful and intense shades of blue, the sun warming your face, you’ll curse the gods that you weren’t born here and wonder why you don’t chuck it all to live here for the rest of your days. (I ask myself this all the time).
I do get to keep coming back, though, in my role as a B&R Trip Designer, and I can say that even if you are a mere visitor to this Balearic jewel, this island easily contains some of the most stunning resorts I’ve ever come across. Here are some of our most beloved, over-the-top luxurious hotels that give you a taste of how sweet it is to (even if temporarily!) make Mallorca your home.
Son Brull: Understated Luxury
The Son Brull is unarguably one of Mallorca’s most luxurious hotels, and we’re proud to say we were among the first to book this incredible Relais & Chateaux property in its earliest days. Once upon a time, it housed the devout: 16thC monks of the Jesuit order. Minimal, sleek, and modern, it’s nestled in the foothills of the Serra de Tramontana, retaining an understated elegance without the stuffiness one dreads from a five-star. Expect warm and attentive service here, as you lounge at the outdoor pool amidst groves of almond, lemon, and orange trees, with the bay of Pollenca in the distance.
Can Simoneta: Seaside Drama
If you love dramatic locations, Can Simoneta pulls out all the stops: it’s situated atop a cliff, with direct access to the ocean via a staircase cut into the rock—complete with private access to a pool that’s also carved out of it! This property, once a farm house, was once a seaside prescription for an ailing monk, who no doubt found his cure in the Mallorcan sunshine and salt-infused air. Indeed, this tranquil spot is the perfect place to put aside the phone, linger outdoors, and truly get away from it all, tuning into your surroundings; the fact that Can Simoneta is located at the edge of a nature reserve also helps. (Where else can you get a massage underneath a stand of pine trees?)
Hotel Cort: At the Heart of Palma
Housed in a former bank, the impeccably designed Hotel Cort is set amidst the mazelike streets that crisscross Palma’s old town centre. With a location overlooking the central square, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better location for a city hotel. (Don’t fret, though: the beach is just a 15-minute walk away). Intimate and cozy, with 16 rooms and suites, it’s an ideal hideaway that’s still close to everything, including the famous Palma Cathedral. The centuries-old olive tree at the heart of the plaza is a popular meeting place for locals, so this hotel is an ideal choice for those looking to participate in the ebb and flow of daily life.
